Tom Jones rocks my face

Do people ever just completely take you ‘aback’? Last week I was going to develop my last roll of film for Digital Photography I, and I got all messed up in my head and forgot to unlock the film, so when I tried to rewind it, it got all grindy and cut the negatives up. I had $1.64 in my checking, so there was no way I’d be able to buy another roll. (We’re required to have 10 rolls developed for our semester portfolio.) I went in to show my professor, Tom Jones, what happened…hoping he’d say, “Well, just put it in your portfolio and I’ll remember that when I grade it.”
The greatest man alive right nowI went to his office and showed him what happened. I told him I didn’t have any money to get more film, and instead of saying what I thought he’d say (see above), he turned around, grabbed a roll of film from his personal stash and tossed it at me. I was astonished that a professor would do that for a student! I’ll be paying him back when I get paid. But I don’t think he expected that I would. What a good guy.

Just for his kindness, here’s a picture of him. Next time you see him, say “Thanks for being great!”

OK bye bye!

What a great guy. He’s also really all about the Amateur Film Movement in Madison. I think it’s safe to say that this college isn’t exactly artistically obsessive. It’s good to see we have a Knight for the cause.

New story…I went in to give him $10 for the film he let me use…and he wouldn’t accept it! Now the next time you see him, say “Thanks for being great times two!”

I saw him today. But I said nothing.

Well, yes, I did. I said, “Well, you CAN give everyone A’s, but it might get you fired. So… it’s give and take.”
