More like “Stupid Planet Awards”

I’m mad. The Golden Globe Awards are stupid. This year. Wanna know why? I’ll tell you.

First of all, Sacha Cohen won Best Actor for a Musical/Comedy Film for his movie, Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan. Really? Best Actor? Was he funny enough? I haven’t seen the movie, but my guess is no. His competitors may not have been any funnier…but I think

Johnny Depp

should have won. Mostly because it’s…

JOHNNY DEPP

Yes, he gets his own line. Meryl Streep won Best Actress for a Musical/Comedy for The Devil Wears Prada. I’ll agree with that. Who wants Beyonce to win, anyway? I didn’t even know she was in Dreamgirls. Plus, Meryl Streep had WHITE HAIR.

Jennifer Hudson won Best Supporting Actress for Dreamgirls. I haven’t seen it. But she’s been the favorite of every talk show I watch (Good Morning America, Regis and Kelly, and The View). So, I’ll agree with that. Apparently she was an American Idol contestant a few seasons ago. I wouldn’t know.

Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t win anything. I’m generally OK with that…but he was nominated twice for one category (Best Actor for a Drama). If he’s good enough to be nominated twice in the SAME CATEGORY…isn’t he good enough to win it? C’mon!

Cars won Best Animated Feature Film. This is the only super great thing about this Golden Globes Awards. Also, I’ll some day be working for Pixar. So, ’nuff said.

Best Television Drama Series went to Grey’s Anatomy. Rubbish. I know I’ll get hate comments on this, but seriously? Heroes was up…I am a religious viewer of that show, but I don’t know how much it deserved the nomination. Lost was up. That’s where my vote lies. I mean, that is original. How many emergency room/doctor shows are there on TV right now? Off the top of my head, I can think of four. How many shows about a group of people who crash into a mysterious island with scary people and a dark cloud? One. Why does everyone hate my opinion?

Kyra Sedgewick (The Closer) beat Evangeline Lily (Lost) for Best Actress in a Television Drama Series. The only reason why I am OK with that is because Kyra spells her name the same way as my summer Brookings apartment-mate.

Ugly Betty won for Best Television Comedy Series. Were the judges stoned? I feel like I’m living a nightmare. It’s not funny. The Office is funny. They probably didn’t win though, because of last week’s episode. Sucks. Also, where’s Studio 60 and Scrubs in this line-up?

Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) beat Zach Braff (Scrubs) and Steve Carell (The Office) for Best Actor in a Television Comedy Series. 30 Rock isn’t funny, therefore neither are any of its actors. Scrubs and The Office are funny, as well as all of its actors. Zach, Steve, I got your back. Also…Matthew Perry in Studio 60? This world doesn’t know how much it needs me.

Bottomline: Matthew Perry, Zach Braff, Steve Carell,

Johnny Depp,

Leonardo DiCaprio, Evangeline Lily, Studio 60, The Office, Lost,…you got hosed. I’m really sorry for this world’s problems.

You can go here to see the nominees and winners.

Also,

Johnny Depp.

This is crap. These are the same people who probably thought “When The Whistle Blows” was brilliant television.

Much like Evangeline Lily, television needs to be saved. Right now, both are very

    LOST

    True dat!

I thoroughly enjoy that Johnny Depp received his own line TWICE in your blog! I am a Grey’s Anatomy fan, but I have to agree with you on the originality. I heard that the Golden Globe people felt they missed the boat last year with awarding that show, so they felt they had to make up for it. I don’t care, I’d watch it if it never received any awards. The same goes for The Office!

  4. Bryce Rausch Says:

    Ok.
    WawaWEEWA! I like. You like?

  5. Paula Says:

I think you are upset about something…

  6. Amy Says:

i agree. i haven’t seen a majority of the movies or shows listed, but i do know enough that thee were some pretty strange upsets. i guess you jut have to remember that the academy awards are what really counts even though that LOTR: return of the king storm was kind of ridiculous.

the academy is full of performers who more than often vote for their own films. not the best system, but it works well enough. it’s been running this way since the 30s, so i guess it works ok.

the reason sacha baron cohen won for borat is because it was the number five best reviewed film of the year. pirates had a critical review average of about a C. i heart johnny depp too, but it just wasn’t his year. as for LOST, many critics believe that the show is in a creative slump, but if you really think about it, it’s been winning emmys and other more important awards than the globes since its air date.

I didn’t watch the Globes, but I’m glad I didn’t. I totally agree with what you said.

Thanks for the briefing, it was much less painful than watching the real thing.

haha, i love it. i could have read your review and saved myself the agonizing 3 hours. yah, shoulda done that.

They always screw everything up it seems like so I quit caring a long time ago. Besides, actors are so rich and so screwed up as people that i could care less whether they win trophies to add to their mantle or not.

As for movies or television shows that win awards as a whole I wish the ones that should win would, but like i said before they always seem to pick some ridiculous stuff i quit caring a long time ago.

I didn’t watch it, and I couldn’t have told you really anything about most of those shows…but I would imagine you speak the truth. I hope that Leo was nominated for ‘The Departed’, because that was a great movie and he did a good job with that Boston accent.
