OK, well I’m done writing music posts for now. I might pick up with Day 9, but no guarantees. I wrote all the posts in one day…so if there’s another day where I feel like picking music and writing a lot of posts, you’ll get more of my favorite music. Deal with it!
In other news, I’ll probably be posting pictures and videos of final projects on here soon. You have something to look forward to.
The Streets is a British rap group…though most wouldn’t call it rapping. It’s mostly talking on top of music. This particular song is giving advice on how to pull off the perfect con and how you can’t con an “honest John” because the only way a con works is if the other person thinks they’re conning you. Which is true.
This song makes me think of driving in Miles’s car away from my Brookings apartment going to get Papa John’s pizza. I remember him telling me there’s this song I need to listen to by this British band called The Streets and how they’re rappers and they’re giving advice on conning. You can imagine what I was thinking when he tells me this. And then plays this song that obviously is not rapping, the way I think of it.
No video, sorry…notable lyric (the very first of the song): Using the following, I’m going to show you: \ A) How to con someone using their own greed \ B) That you won’t feel bad ‘cos they’re trying to con you anyway \ and C) TAKING THEIR MONEY!
Regina is like my favorite ever. Miles put a song of hers on one of my CDs and and then put this song of hers on another CD. She has a very distinct vocal quality that is sometimes haunting and sometimes cute. At one point, I felt jealousy because of how much Miles was listening to her music.
Poor sound quality…but I couldn’t find a real music video for it.
Some people connect smells with memory. Well, I do that. But I also connect music with memory. Every time I hear this song, I think I am sitting at my desk at Daktronics. I blame that mostly on putting this song on repeat for nearly the entire day while I worked. Since The Postal Service is pretty much Death Cab for Cutie but not, they’re like my favorite band.
Known for its spot in a The OC finale, and more famously known for SNL’s digital short, Dear Sister, this song is also often found on repeat. I’ve never seen this video before nor heard anything else from Imogen Heap…but they just might become my favorite band of all time.
