Tom Jones rocks my face

Do people ever just completely take you ‘aback’? Last week I was going to develop my last roll of film for Digital Photography I, and I got all messed up in my head and forgot to unlock the film, so when I tried to rewind it, it got all grindy and cut the negatives up. I had $1.64 in my checking, so there was no way I’d be able to buy another roll. (We’re required to have 10 rolls developed for our semester portfolio.) I went in to show my professor, Tom Jones, what happened…hoping he’d say, “Well, just put it in your portfolio and I’ll remember that when I grade it.”
The greatest man alive right nowI went to his office and showed him what happened. I told him I didn’t have any money to get more film, and instead of saying what I thought he’d say (see above), he turned around, grabbed a roll of film from his personal stash and tossed it at me. I was astonished that a professor would do that for a student! I’ll be paying him back when I get paid. But I don’t think he expected that I would. What a good guy.

Just for his kindness, here’s a picture of him. Next time you see him, say “Thanks for being great!”

OK bye bye!

I ache everywhere…

I messed up. I “ctrl+c” the post I just wrote, and then went to upload the picture and copied the code…and realized I then didn’t have the post copied. So I’ll try my best.

This morning I had my Biology lab at 8am. We took a quiz and finished our assignment in 40 minutes. I printed in the darkroom a couple photos. Then I went to Photoshop…I had to scan an advertisement in for my final in that class, so I went to the library. I returned a 1/2 hr later and everyone except 2 of my lunch dates for the day had left the class already. We went to lunch and the table included: Kristen Grimm, Chase Anderton, Gil Blanchette, Jeff Swett, and myself. Good times, as most of my lunch dates tend to be. My Grandpa sent me a Christmas card today with a nice check inside. Orlando, here I come!

I babysat Cici from 1:00 until 4:00 today. She was super sleepy but has been anti-crib for the past week or so. She slept on the floor of the living room but kept getting distracted by things in the room. Finally I gave her the camp homesick theory of “tough love”. I put her in her crib and left the room. She cried for about 5 mintues and then fell right asleep. I worked on my Photoshop advertisement while she was sleeping and got a lot accomplished.

At 5:00 I went to band and hurt my back playing the timpani. What else is new? We perform Saturday night. Then I went to work at KJAM for a Madison HS basketball game. The DJ couldn’t get a decent phone connection, so he couldn’t do the play-by-play. Instead, I played the programmed music and he’d call in on his cell phone about every 10 minutes to give a score and stat update. It was boring. I started a scarf and crocheted for the 2.5 hours, though though. I only have a 1/2 hour left with it too! After work, I went to visit Miles in his apartment.

I visited him as well as his turtle Haji. She wasn’t as hospitable. We talked about a large variety of things in a very short amount of time. He convinced me to start reading Harry Potter, since I’ve never read/seen the series at all. I have the 1st book in my posession. I plan to read it on the flight to Orlando. I figure, to read all of the books, I’ll be taking many trips to Florida. I really enjoy Miles’ apartment. It is decently priced, especially for one person and (in my opinion) is a very nice apartment. I’m sure there are downsides, as are to any other residence. I haven’t seen any of the other apartments in the complex, though though. If Sara, Kensi, Danielle, and I don’t get in the 8-plexes for whatever reason, I’d seriously consider looking into an apartment for myself there. Maybe this summer even, if I get the Daktronics internship and can rent for that short of time. Who knows!

After my very brief visit with Miles, I went to Holly Smith’s/Bob Davidson’s house near 10:30. I got lost because the snow and nighttime lack of light confused me, but I made it there eventually. She has a “makeshift” darkroom in her basement (which has the coolest entrance ever). I had already printed all 10 of my photos, but knew I wouldn’t be happy with a couple of them, so she self-lessly let me do my stuff down there. I printed 6 more photos, just to be safe. She rocks. Now I need to spot-tone the pictures, mount them, and assemble them into my portfolio. I will present them this Friday. Her basement entrance is in the floor in her kitchen and the steps lead down into a medium sized concrete room. Perfect for photography. Check out the picture below for a sense of how cool it is to go in their basement!

And here I am. I showered a little bit ago so that I don’t have to wake up quite so early for Biology. I’ll go to sleep as soon as my brain stops working so hard and my back stops hurting….so I guess I’ll never go to bed. Go figure. Just kidding, I probably will. I sure fooled you though, though!

OK, bye bye!

Merry Monday!

First of all, thanks to Miles and all his hard work on creating this space for me. You rock, as always. Also, check out my schedule for the week…if you’re interested >>>>>

Busy Monday for me today…
I had Biology at 8…it was difficult since I was up until 3am last night doing pretty much what amounts to nothing. I would close my eyes only because I didn’t have enough ‘umph’ in me to keep them open. I still heard everything Dr. Bakker said though. I hope she doesn’t hate me now. I went back to my room to sleep for 50 minutes and then headed to Photography. Turns out I’ve only printed 9 photographs for my portfolio and 2 for my manipulation assignment. I guess I’ve gotta work on printing those hopefully tomorrow.

I left there early and eventually wound up eating lunch with Jeff Swett. And yelling at Gil Blanchette who normally eats with us, but decided he was too cool or something today. Ouch. I bought some chapstick at the bookstore because my lips were starting to fall apart. Not much went on in Desktop Publishing, except working on my final project. That consists of two newspaper ads, as well as a two-page spread of the Trojan Times.

I presented at 2 in Web Publishing my final project, an informative web page on Evolution vs. Intelligent Design. I was really nervous all weekend long because I wasn’t sure on how to present it and if I was preparing correctly. I am the only one to present so far. I guess I did pretty well. I spent the entire semester thinking he hated me…and today it seemed like I was his best friend. I felt like a super star, kind of. He said if you give a presentation similar to mine, you’d end up just fine. So that was a big sigh.

I went to talk to my advisor, Brad Hesser at 3. He advised me to take ArtH 212 via internet next semester as well as Drama Act (one credit for being involved with theater). That will put me at 22 credits next semester. But I’d be in theater anyway, might as well get the credit. And the Art History class will only add about one more hour of work a week since it is online. So that’s good. We also spent 30 minutes figuring out when I will graduate. I could graduate May 2007, but as it turns out, there is one class that I have to take the fall after Spring 07…so I guess it will be ‘lighter’ loads my last 3 semesters and I’ll graduate Dec. 2007. Not too shabby, since I thought I’d be here for 5 years…now it’s 3 1/2 years. Kind of exhilirating. My future roommates were excited about the fact that I’d be here a semester longer!

Went to the chiropractor at 3:45…apparently my back and neck are way out of line. And they still hurt.

Then I had a super short meeting with a resident at 5:00. At 6:00 was the Drama Club meeting. I posted on the Facebook drama club group about my disapp0intment in members not attending things. Miles, Holly, Megan and other members are working hard at organizing things and it’s embarassing and extremely disappointing if no one even gives it a try and helps out or attends. Angry face.

At 7:30 was our Student Ambassador Christmas party. We celebrated at Fat Daddy’s bar downtown. As my ‘white elephant’ gift, I crocheted a blue and grey scarf today (if you can believe I found the time!) Old RA, Sara Nelson was the lucky one to get it! I got Tuna Helper and a can of Tuna. Needless to say, no one tried to steal mine. :) Below is a picture of Travis Krueger who received a tree as his gift and he was ECSTATIC!

Travis enjoys his gift

I went to say hi to Jesse on my way back to campus and found him sleeping. I poked his shoulder, he woke up groggily and then waved his arms around completely freaked out. It was the funniest thing. I probably won’t ever wake him up again!

I had a lovely note from residents Amanda and Melissa when I returned, so I gave them candy for their nice gesture! Anyway, as I’m online chatting and blogging, I realized I have less than a week to finish 4 rather large projects. It’s OK. I’m super woman.

Verse of the Day: John 1:12

I can see Disney World already!

On Monday, Jesse and I celebrated our ‘one month’. By celebrating, I mean we saw snow fall down so hard and fast that school was cancelled at noon because of the weather. (The first time in four years, apparently.) And so not much celebrating was done. I got stuck in the snow that night, and hurt my back while trying to open my doors because they were frozen shut.

Tuesday was busy, as it always is. Biology lab was canceled because of the weather. Intervarsity that night was pretty interesting, as there was a reference to Kramer from Seinfeld. Wednesday was a usual Wednesday. I was informed that our photography assignment is due next Friday…as well as 10 portfolio prints. That means at least 20 prints need to be made (all of which take 1 1/2 hrs to print) in order for the minimum to be done. Stress level went way, way up. I seem to now be doing better, as I am almost finished with it. That afternoon we had our weekly RA meeting and there are lots of things to be done by the end of the semester in that area as well. Then at night we had a Senate meeting for the first time in 3 weeks…and it lasted 15 minutes. It was nice, but I’d think we’d have more to talk about since it’s been so long. I also experienced snow fall down my shirt in a snow ball fight with Jesse. At 9:30 Jeff Swett convinced me to go bowling with them again. I told them I didn’t have any money so I’d just do homework or something. As it turns out, I got donations to bowl. I didn’t even ask, they just gave. I received two dollars from Jeff Millar and Swett. And one dollar from Adam Harmon and Nikki Duffy. And then random quarters from people as each game progressed. People sometimes truly surprise me. Millar got his second turkey…and you all know what that means for me.

I was on duty Thursday, as usual. From 8-11 I worked on photography, to be seen only by one person, Mr. Ryan Glanzer (check out his page in my links)…who reminisced for 60 seconds about his days in the dark room, before returning to work on his wood sculpture. I had class from 11-12, ate with Kristen Grimm, and worked on photography again from 1-5. Attended band for the first time in a few rehearsals, and relived the glory days (last year) with Marc Bergren for a good 30 minutes. Seems like it’s been a while since I’ve really talked with him. That night, Jesse cooked me a delicious supper (chicken cordon bleu, corn, rice, fruit, and milk) at his apartment. He said it was to make up for Monday night. I think he did it because he likes me. One of his roommates greeted me in a towel, which I didn’t find odd at all. We watched an episode of Friends and then I had to return to being on duty.

Yesterday, I worked some more on photography, attended classes, and babysat for Cici for a few hours. I went to head over to Jesse’s after supper and noticed I was in a snow drift. I had to push myself out and dig the snow away from my tires. Plenty of people walked by, and no one thought to set down their food and help me out. People sometimes truly disappoint me. But never surprise me. Anyway, I got out and got to the apartment. They had friends visiting this weekend, and they seemed to be having a good time.

Today I finished up a project I’d been working on with Swett for marketing and it turned out well! I finished writing my presentation for my web design project. I may or may not post it on here in the future. I’ll probably clean my room soon and then visit Jesse.

No KJAM hours this week for some reason.

Turns out Bryan’s little brother Aaron Johnson is joining us for the Florida trip this winter, bringing the guests: Heather, Jackie, Bryan, Aaron, Doug, and myself. Good times ahead
