Oooo! Shiny!

My Perfect Ring

They say rings don’t photograph well. I think this photo is the exception.

Miles proposed to me Saturday night, and I said “yes”. It’s on video, sort of. Look for a Newsbleep later this week for more information on his not-so-evil scheme! I was surprised and I cried almost uncontrollably. All I could really say was “baby…!”

Semester Outlook

Well, this seems to be the thing to do at the beginning of the semester…. I’m in my 3rd year, but because of the credits I completed last semester, I technically am considered a Senior. I have 12 credits left after this semester.

3D Design II: This is the second class of my 3D modeling and animation course from last semester. I’m really going to like it, since I really liked the first one, and we’re just learning more about the program and stuff. Advantage: I will have more projects to post because of this class.

Microeconomics: I was going to take History, but I had to buy 4 books for that, which meant too much reading. So I decided to take this class instead. As it turns out, the professor made a deal with a company and we got our book absolutely free! I don’t know anything about economics, so I’ll hopefully be learning a lot. Which also might mean a lot of work. Advantage: David sits next to me.

Physics: This class should be OK. I think I’ll like it a lot more than I like Biology. I like the math aspect of it. So, that’s cool. I’ll probably need Miles’s calculator. I forgot to ask him though. Advantage: My teacher is Polish.

Painting: This class is expensive, with the supplies alone. Well over $100. But I haven’t ever painted before, so it could be disaster or I could be pleasantly surprised. Who can tell? Advantage: David is in it, so no matter what, I won’t be the worst painter in class. ZING!

Digital Editing: I must withdraw from Painting. Since I am graduating in Dec 07, I made arrangements for an independent study of Digital Editing. (It normally is only offered in the spring). However, circumstances have changed, and so my professor asked me to take it this semester. It conflicts with Painting. I’ll be taking Painting in the fall. Advantage: One less class with David. Zing!

Graphic Effects II: This is the second class of the one I did last semester. We do a lot of interactive design on DVDs and the like. We will be constructing an electronic portfolio in this class as well. Advantage: This class works at a nice pace and so I don’t feel over-stressed.

Information Architecture: This class is online. She’s teaching it at the same time as a face to face class…so it probably means more work than most onlines classes have meant for me in the past. However, it doesn’t seem to be hard things. Mostly analyzing websites and discussing how their navigation and design could be improved. Not the funnest class, but it’s required. Advantage: It’s online.

Nineteen credits. Not too bad. But I’ll probably be busy. I also got a job. So…we’ll see if I ever post this semester. ;)

More like “Stupid Planet Awards”

I’m mad. The Golden Globe Awards are stupid. This year. Wanna know why? I’ll tell you.

First of all, Sacha Cohen won Best Actor for a Musical/Comedy Film for his movie, Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan. Really? Best Actor? Was he funny enough? I haven’t seen the movie, but my guess is no. His competitors may not have been any funnier…but I think

Johnny Depp

should have won. Mostly because it’s…

Yes, he gets his own line. Meryl Streep won Best Actress for a Musical/Comedy for The Devil Wears Prada. I’ll agree with that. Who wants Beyonce to win, anyway? I didn’t even know she was in Dreamgirls. Plus, Meryl Streep had WHITE HAIR.

Jennifer Hudson won Best Supporting Actress for Dreamgirls. I haven’t seen it. But she’s been the favorite of every talk show I watch (Good Morning America, Regis and Kelly, and The View). So, I’ll agree with that. Apparently she was an American Idol contestant a few seasons ago. I wouldn’t know.

Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t win anything. I’m generally OK with that…but he was nominated twice for one category (Best Actor for a Drama). If he’s good enough to be nominated twice in the SAME CATEGORY…isn’t he good enough to win it? C’mon!

Cars won Best Animated Feature Film. This is the only super great thing about this Golden Globes Awards. Also, I’ll some day be working for Pixar. So, ’nuff said.

Best Television Drama Series went to Grey’s Anatomy. Rubbish. I know I’ll get hate comments on this, but seriously? Heroes was up…I am a religious viewer of that show, but I don’t know how much it deserved the nomination. Lost was up. That’s where my vote lies. I mean, that is original. How many emergency room/doctor shows are there on TV right now? Off the top of my head, I can think of four. How many shows about a group of people who crash into a mysterious island with scary people and a dark cloud? One. Why does everyone hate my opinion?

Kyra Sedgewick (The Closer) beat Evangeline Lily (Lost) for Best Actress in a Television Drama Series. The only reason why I am OK with that is because Kyra spells her name the same way as my summer Brookings apartment-mate.

Ugly Betty won for Best Television Comedy Series. Were the judges stoned? I feel like I’m living a nightmare. It’s not funny. The Office is funny. They probably didn’t win though, because of last week’s episode. Sucks. Also, where’s Studio 60 and Scrubs in this line-up?

Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) beat Zach Braff (Scrubs) and Steve Carell (The Office) for Best Actor in a Television Comedy Series. 30 Rock isn’t funny, therefore neither are any of its actors. Scrubs and The Office are funny, as well as all of its actors. Zach, Steve, I got your back. Also…Matthew Perry in Studio 60? This world doesn’t know how much it needs me.

Bottomline: Matthew Perry, Zach Braff, Steve Carell,

Johnny Depp,

Leonardo DiCaprio, Evangeline Lily, Studio 60, The Office, Lost,…you got hosed. I’m really sorry for this world’s problems.

Johnny Depp.

Another List

Falls Park

I’m bored. I have been for a lot of the break. I’ve played at least 10 games of solitaire every day that I’ve been home. And I’ve still done some productive things, too. Over break, I have:

  • conducted a photoshoot with Marissa one pleasant afternoon. Check them out here.
  • been hired by DSU to do some simple web editing. This may or may not turn into a part-time job that I’ve applied for.
  • celebrated a one-year anniversary with Miles.
  • traveled to Madison, Big Stone City, and Council Bluffs.
  • survived a blizzard-like trip home.
  • created invitations for Adam’s wedding.
  • revisited Falls Park for the first time since Miles asked me out.
  • had a dentist appointment. Luckily, the dentist didn’t ask for an MO this time.
  • attended a house-warming party for Holly and Bob.
  • played tons of games.
  • got fitted for a bridesmaid dress.
  • watched football.
  • scraped off wallpaper border and repainted a room.
  • got realigned by my chiropractor.

Here are the before and after pictures of the room.

It doesn’t look like much of a change, but trust me – it is. It began as a bright yellow that didn’t cover the walls very well. When I was done, it was a carmel/latte color on three walls with a “Lucky Penny” color as an accent wall. The picture doesn’t do it justice. Also, disregard the bedspread and curtains. They will be replaced to match the rest of the room.

I will return to Madison tomorrow. School does not start until the 17th, but I’ve got plenty of things to do in the mean time, plus RA responsibilities. Sorry that it’s taken so long for me to post!
